Knowledge exchanges broadly include practices similar to those involved in shopping. The shopping metaphor helps us relate knowledge exchanges to our experiences with typical shopping practices (for example, displays or shop windows for advertising and demonstrating products). Shoppers often have a specific demand but often don't know beforehand which product will meet it.
