Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Gesche Joost, the research department Design Research eXplorations (DRX) investigates smart technologies from a designerly perspective. Through Material Interaction, Wearable Computing and Community Engagement, we contribute to sustainable transformation processes and give access to people to participate in the digital society.
The research group specializes in concept development and participatory methods for social and ethical technology assessment and experimental development. In this context, transdisciplinary tools, products and services for human-machine interaction are developed with the involvement of citizens and consideration of aspects of social sustainability, value orientation, environment, and ecology. The iterative design process ranges from conception to evaluation in user tests and results in tech prototypes or systems. We contribute to an ecosystem based on open source approaches.
DRX is linked to a growing network of research institutions - such as Einstein Center for Digital Future and Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society - dedicated to ethical and responsible research in digital technologies.
