Abstract

Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) are going to be an indispensable component for realizing future sixth generation (6G) networks. With the rise of mega-constellation low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, such as OneWeb and Starlink, there is growing interest in the telecommunication research community on how to leverage such constellations to supplement existing terrestrial networks (TNs). According to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), NTNs operation will support not only the conventional satellite to very small aperture terminal (VSAT) links, but also direct satellite to handheld devices or user equipments (UEs) links. Consequently, it is worth considering the possible effect on the level of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure from the uplink. In this work, we report on preliminary results from a measurement campaign in the vicinity of a Starlink VSAT of the second generation.
