With LegalEyes, DFKI is introducing an AI-based assistant that translates legal documents into understandable, interactive overviews, thereby facilitating collaboration among legal departments, specialist departments, and management. Contracts, guidelines, or terms and conditions are automatically analyzed, key content is extracted, and the results are presented in clearly structured language without diluting the legal substance.
In the demonstrator, visitors first mark typical contract documents or clause types, such as confidentiality agreements, liability provisions, or term and termination provisions. LegalEyes identifies and categorizes relevant passages, highlights potential risks, and offers explanatory text modules, examples, and visualizations that even non-lawyers can understand. In addition, the system supports the documentation of review processes by structurally recording notes, queries, and decisions, making them traceable for audit and compliance purposes.
The focus is on the basic principles of trustworthy and legally compliant AI: LegalEyes relies on transparent justifications, reproducible analysis paths, and configurable guidelines that can be adapted to company-specific requirements. The demonstrator thus fits into DFKI's Trusted AI innovation field and addresses key challenges in modern legal practice: increasing document volumes, high regulatory burdens, and the need to make complex decisions traceable and understandable to all parties involved.
