Talk To Your iPod

The DFKI (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence) will present their multimodal interaction system called BabbleTunes on the international CeBIT 2008 exhibition, at stand B37 in hall 9. BabbleTunes makes it possible to use your iPod in an intuitive and language-centred way. You can access your whole music collection only by saying “Play ‘We will rock you’ by ‘Queen’“ and this song will be played immediately. This new kind of user interface allows you to access and use all basic functions of your MP3 player in a natural-speaking way without having to learn special language commands. Apart from that you can operate your MP3 player via touch-screen.

BabbleTunes is a further development of the SAMMIE dialogue system which was created during the research project TALK. It is based on the ODP framework which is being used at present in the research program THESEUS. ODP is a generic platform to realise multimodal dialogue systems; it helps to simplify the development of such systems. Special features of BabbleTunes are the almost immediate processing of verbal commands to access any music data content via iPod interface by using linguistic methods to identify and process multilinguistic content.

Imagine you could immediately access and listen to any song you are in the mood for, no matter where you are, be it your car or your living room at home. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Today’s MP3 players can already store and administer huge amounts of music data. But the limited possibilities of user interfaces helping users to find their way through the data jungle are still a problem.
